For a second year the three ladies who provide the meals at Tigh a Rudha and also for the Island’s Meals on Wheels service have attained a Safe Catering Award run by Food Standards Agency for Scotland.

Catherine Ina, is the cook and has worked at Tigh a Rudha for twenty-four years.
Anne and Jean are relative newcomers to the home having been there for a mere nineteen and twenty years respectively!

To meet the exacting standards of the Food Standards Agency the ladies, under Catherine Ina’s supervision, have to follow the Cooksafe System in their kitchen, which means not only ensuring high standards of hygiene in the storage, preparation and service of food but also making sure that all records pertaining to the system are properly kept and filed so they can be inspected at any time by agency staff.

Ongoing training and keeping up to date with the changes made to food handling regulations is an important part of a caterer’s job and we look forward to hearing about more of the team’s achievements.
